STAR QUEST AUDITION IS HERE!

Nigerian Breweries
Plc held a press conference on Wednesday February 16,to announce
details of its music talent hunt programme; Star Quest. Speaking at the
event, Yusuf Ageni, the Corporate Affairs Adviser of the corporation
said, ‘‘The quest will still be on for a band and our plan remains to
create the hottest music band in Nigeria with the participation of the
general public. Like the last edition, online registration will not be
required for participation and auditioning in this year’s Star Quest.

Contestants will rather be required to fill participation forms at the
audition venues and then be auditioned.’ He also added that since the
competition began in 2002, it has discovered music talents with raw
music skills including artistry in playing musical instruments and a
team that can work effectively within a short period of time. According
to Ageni, ‘‘Contestants from all over the country will be given the
opportunity to become the next stars in the Nigerian music scene and
win a coveted recording contract among other attractive prizes’.

While the auditions
will hold in Abuja, Enugu, Benin and Lagos, he added that entry is open
to individuals between the ages of 21-30 years with demonstrable
proficiency in at least one vital area of music, instrumentation,
vocals, or song writing.

A new twist

Star Quest 2011
compared to previous editions, will have 55 contestants selected from
the regional auditions and assembled in Lagos for a grand audition
which will see them display their talents in front of a live audience.
This according to the Ageni, will enable viewers capture the excitement
that accompanies contestants’ realising their stardom. At the end of
this, 36 successful finalists will emerge and proceed into the Fame
land, he added.

These 36 finalists
will stay in the fame land for a period of four weeks. During this
period, the contestants will mingle, interact and bond with each other
and then group themselves into 6 distinct bands. Each band will be made
up of individuals with different musical skills. These six bands will
be expected to create and produce their own original music as well as
perform existing songs on which basis they will be evaluated by the
viewing public. The six bands will then be eliminated to three in the
first round.

This entire process
will be broadcast on national television and elimination will be
decided by public voting via SMS. The remaining three bands will then
move on to the national final. The grand finale event will be broadcast
live on Saturday, May 7th, 2011, and the winning band will again be
decided 100% by live public voting via SMS.

For the winning band

This year, the
winning band will win N7.5m recording contract, N3.6m cash, a minivan

In addition, the winning band will also participate in the upcoming 2011 Star-sponsored events as performing artists.
